Heritage Sights is a counter-beaded map from a 1970’s Heritage of Canada coffee table book. Counter-beading is based on the concept of counter mapping in which community-level people ‘map’ or ‘remap’ locations, structures or resources as a resistance against dominant power structures. In this case, the addition of an indigenous cultural art-form over an heritage site map reminds us of an indigenous presence on accounted for on the map. Beaded on the original lithographed book page and mounted on a cotton fabric.
